LED strips are an amazingly flexible and energy-efficient way of lighting that has found widespread use in home decor, room lighting, building architecture, the television industry, and many other fields. In this article, we look at the different types of LED strips to help you choose the perfect option for your lighting and decoration needs.

Our showroom has a wide selection of all types of LED tapes, which can be seen on the stands. Come to us for an in-depth consultation and we will gladly choose the option that suits you!

So, LED strips differ in the following main features:

• Voltage

• Power (W/m) /number of diodes

• Colour

• Protection class (IP)

Let's take a closer look at these parameters.

Voltage

12V DC

Most LED strips run on 12V or 24V. These are low voltage systems that ensure safe use and minimize the risk of electric shock. Such systems are ideal for home decoration, automotive lighting, commercial signage and more. Their operation requires a transformer, which is selected according to the length of the strip, its voltage and power.

230V AC

Much less often, 230 V bands are used in projects. They are less durable and safe, and more difficult to cut and join. As a rule, this type of strip is chosen for lighting facades and other street lighting solutions.

Power (W/m) / number  LED

There are a huge number of LED strip capacities. Typically, power is closely related to the number of LEDs per linear meter - the more, the higher. When choosing a capacity, it is important to consider the specific needs of your project. More powerful strips may be required for general lighting, less powerful options may be suitable for decorative use or backlighting.

Color

The following types of bands are distinguished by color:

Monochrome: This is the most common type of LED strip lights that emit light in a single color such as white, red, blue, green or other. They can be used to create basic lighting or highlight certain objects.
RGB: These strips consist of LEDs capable of generating three primary colors – red (red), green (green) and blue (blue). Millions of different shades can be created by varying the brightness of each color. Such strips are widely used in home lighting, as well as in entertainment rooms to create dynamic and multi-colored effects.
RGBW: such strips contain, in addition to color diodes, additional white LEDs with the same light temperature (3000K, 4000K or 6000K). This allows the strip to be used as both main and decorative lighting.
CCT: These strips offer the ability to adjust the color temperature of the light from warm to cool. They allow you to create different atmospheres in the rooms according to your needs and preferences.
RGB+CCT: The most advanced strip type, which includes all possible colors and shades.

Protection class (IP)

There are quite a few protection classes for LED strips depending on the manufacturer, but let's look at the three main ones.

IP20 - omavad minimaalset kaitset tolmu eest ja nullkaitsega niiskuse eest. Need on ette nähtud kasutamiseks kuivades ruumides.
IP68 - fully protected against mechanical damage and moisture; can work underwater and are used for shower lighting, facade lighting, and pool and fountain lighting.
IP65 - have a silicone protective layer that covers the LEDs and protects them from mechanical damage. Many sources write that they are suitable for humid rooms, but we do not recommend using them in humid environments, because the protective layer is only on the diodes, but not on the metal plate, which can quickly deteriorate due to the influence of humidity.
For complete and long-term operation of the strips, we strongly recommend that all strips, regardless of their protection level, be placed in an aluminum profile to remove heat and extend the life of the strip.

Hundreds of profiles of all shapes and sizes are available in our showroom and on our website.

Specialized LED strips

There are several types of bands that have special properties that we would like to pay special attention to.

Addressable strips (PIXEL) - strips in which each diode is programmed using special programs and controllers. Their range is so wide that we publish a separate article about them. With their help, large and complex projects are implemented, such as lighting solutions for casinos and nightclubs.

Neon strips are analogous to old neon tubes. Used to create drawings and labels.

We wrote more about it in this article

S-Type - Unlike normal strips that need to be cut and soldered when they need to be bent - S-type strips bend in any direction. They are convenient for creating light signs and stars.
Side light strips - the light of the diodes in these strips is not directed forward, but to the side. Suitable for projects where directional light is needed, for example for lighting paintings.
UV - a band that emits UV light.
FITO - used as lighting and additional lighting for plant growth and flowering.

In this article, we looked at the variety of LED strips. Each of these types has its own unique characteristics and advantages that can be crucial in choosing the right option for a lighting or interior design project.

Thanks to their flexibility, energy efficiency and versatility, LED strip lights are becoming an increasingly popular choice for lighting homes, offices, shops and other indoor spaces. They allow you to create bright and creative interiors, using energy efficiently and providing long-lasting and reliable lighting.

When choosing an LED strip, it is important to consider the specific needs and goals of your project and the characteristics of each strip type. We hope our overview of the different types of LED strips will help you make an informed decision and create great lighting or interior design that you can enjoy for years to come.
