In today's world, LED lighting has become an integral part of our daily life. It is used in a variety of applications, from home lighting to street lights, from monitors to car headlights. However, there are many myths and prejudices surrounding LED technology that can mislead consumers. In this article, we look at five common myths about LED lighting and break them down based on current scientific evidence and expert opinion.

Myth 1: LED lamps emit harmful substances

Many people believe that these light sources can emit harmful substances into the air due to the heat. However, this is wrong. No semiconductor, phosphor, or lamp housing material is toxic if manufactured following all technological processes.

LED lamps simply do not contain harmful components.

These typically include:

  • plastic
  • metal (often aluminum)
  • electronic driver components

However, fluorescent lamps can be dangerous to health because dangerous mercury vapors are released when they break.

Myth 2: LED lights burn out

The longevity of LED lights depends only on their quality. A high-quality LED lamp requires carefully selected and high-quality components, including crystals, housing and driver.

Crystals from which light-emitting diodes are made play a key role. The quality of the crystals directly affects the longevity of the LED. If the crystal is made of low-quality materials, the LED can quickly fail. Therefore, it is important to choose LED lights that use components from reputable manufacturers such as Philips, Osram, Epistar and others.

In addition, the housing of LED lamps must be properly designed to ensure efficient cooling of the diodes. Inadequate cooling can result in shorter service life, even when using high-quality LEDs.

High-quality driver components are also an important component to prevent LED flickering and ensure stable power.

By combining high-quality components - light-emitting diodes, housing and driver - it is possible to get a long-life LED light source. However, even one low-quality component can significantly shorten this service life. A high-quality LED light can last up to 50,000 hours with 10-12 hours of daily use, but this is only true for high-quality products.

Myth 3: LED lights do not provide bright enough light

Modern LED lamps can provide enough bright light to match or even exceed the brightness of traditional incandescent or fluorescent lamps. Moreover, they are more energy efficient, so even with lower energy consumption they can produce bright light.

Given that there is a large selection of LED products on the market today, you can choose the necessary brightness independently without much effort, knowing the size and characteristics of your room.

Myth 4: LED light is harmful to the eyes

There is a common misconception that LED light is harmful to the eyes. However, this is not true. It is important to understand that LED light sources are used everywhere in modern equipment and lighting and undergo rigorous safety testing.

In fact, LEDs have a lower intensity and less energy in the visible spectrum compared to other light sources such as incandescent or CFLs. In addition, LED lamps do not emit harmful ultraviolet and infrared radiation, so it cannot harm your eyesight.

The only thing that can cause discomfort and affect a person's health and psychological state is a high level of blue light and a high flicker factor.

Both indicators are characteristic only of low-quality products, and we will write more about it in a separate article.

Myth 5: LEDs give too cold light

While early models of LED bulbs may have produced light that felt cooler compared to traditional bulbs, today's LED bulbs are available in a variety of colors, including warm white and even yellow light, which creates a cozier atmosphere. There is now a large selection of LED bulbs that can produce a warm and pleasant light that suits any room or mood.

So, despite popular beliefs about the potential harmful effects of LED light, current evidence shows that this technology has many benefits and is safe to use.

LED lamps not only offer efficient and environmentally friendly lighting, but also the advantages of energy efficiency and durability. They are becoming increasingly affordable and widely used, replacing outdated light sources in many applications.

However, it is important to remember that the proper use and installation of LED light sources plays a key role in ensuring their safety and efficiency. Educating the public about the real features and benefits of LED lighting will help dispel myths and doubts, making the choice in favor of modern technology more informed and informed.
